Business Innovation and Digital Transformation
The Business Innovation & Digital Transformation Division works together with county departments in order to study the potential of piloting and testing technology that improves the experience for citizens data-driven decision-making and employee engagement. We also manage relationships and work with external vendors on technology roadmaps.
Businesses undertake business innovation and digital transformation for a variety reasons. They might want to meet the ever-growing demands of their customers for speed, responsiveness, personalisation, or speed. They could also be looking to earn more money by selling their products and services through new channels (such as social media, e-commerce and mobile apps). A new management team could decide to change the way in which the company runs. The need to innovate could also be driven by the desire to remove outdated processes, systems and technology.
Business leaders should make sure to plan the change in a thoughtful manner and be sure to communicate the change widely, regardless of the reason for it. They should set precise goals, establish specific and precise key performance indicators (KPIs) that are in line with the strategy for transformation, and report on them regularly to assess progress. Inadequate or incorrect KPIs can result in delays to projects or even failure.
Engaging employees in the planning process and implementation is also important. The change will impact all employees, so they should feel that they are part of the solution. They should be encouraged even if they fail, to experiment in order to create an environment that encourages creativity.
